Positive Payload 2019 Winter Winners Announced

$4,000 in Grants Awarded to Hardworking Non-Profits

PAOLI, Pa. (Jan 31, 2019) – AmericanTrucks.com (AT) setup the Positive Payload program to support non-profit organizations using pickup trucks in field work that leverages the building trades.

This January, the aftermarket auto parts retailer has selected two more charities to receive a $2,000 award through their grant program. Established in 2017, the list of organizations benefiting from the program has grown to include Habitat for Humanity’s Philadelphia chapter, and Water Mission International.

Tips for Accelerating and Braking While Towing

Accelerating and braking aren’t the same when you are towing a trailer behind your vehicle. With the additional weight of your trailer and any cargo you are hauling, as well as the length of your trailer, acceleration is slower and your stopping distance is increased. In order to tow as safely as possible, it’s important to know the best practices for accelerating and braking while towing.

Accelerating
It will take longer to get up to speed when you are towing a trailer, so it is recommended that you take some time to adjust to these new variables so you are used to how long it will take you to accelerate when you hit the road. First, make sure your trailer and tow vehicle are properly connected and that your cargo is loaded properly. Then, find an open area with little or no traffic for a practice run.

Go Exploring

I speak a lot about being fully prepared for the 4WD experience. Knowing where you’re going, what you’ll need along the way, and when you’ll be back. That’s all well and good. But sometimes a little adventure is called for. You yearn to try something new. To go out exploring (overlanding, as four-wheelers call it).

You still need to prepare properly, but the trip has a more spontaneous nature to it. The thought pops into your head while driving on the road. You spot an interesting trail off in the distance. Or cross over one while on a highway. Sometimes you’ll hear of an intriguing drive from a buddy. (Or read of one here on my website.)

How Good is the JL Wrangler’s Hill Descent Control?

PAOLI, Pa. (Jan 15, 2019) – In this episode of ExtremeTerrain’s Throttle Out YouTube Series, Ryan Huck takes a 2018 JLU to Rausch Creek Off-Road Park in Pine Grove, PA to test the Hill Descent control (HDC). This new feature, available in the JL Wrangler, is only intended for low speed off-road driving. When HDC is activated in 4-low, it automatically applies the brakes while descending hills at speeds below 30 MPH.
