Hummer Sweeps BITD Season Finale

HUMMER Sweeps Best In the Desert Season Finale, Secures Season Championships

DETROIT – Team HUMMER concluded the 2008 desert racing season with its second hat-trick of the year as it swept the stock classes at the December 6, Best In the Desert (BITD) Racing Association’s FabTech Desert Classic 2008 season finale.

Once again, Chad Hall and the H3 Alpha were the first stock class vehicle to cross the finish line, earning a class victory in the stock full SUV (4100) class.  Josh Hall and the H2 SUT secured the stock full truck (8100) class victory, finishing just five seconds behind his brother.  Team owner and family patriarch, Rod Hall, earned his fifth BITD class victory of 2008, racing his H3 to a stock mini (3100) class win.

The victories also secured the team’s sweep of all three BITD stock class season championships, adding to the pair of SCORE International stock class season championships secured at the 2008 Baja 1000.  With a total of five class season championships, 2008 marks the most successful year for HUMMER Racing since the team was founded in 1993.

“In a sport where just finishing the race is an accomplishment, our ability to win every class championship this season demonstrates the strength of the Hummer vehicles and the determination of our entire team,” said Hall.

2008 Team HUMMER season highlights include:
·        Rod Hall wins SCORE International and BITD stock mini class season championship in the H3.
·        Chad Hall wins SCORE International and Best In the Desert stock full season championship in the H3 Alpha’s inaugural season.
·        Josh Hall wins Best in the Desert stock full truck season championship in H2 SUT’s first complete season.
·        Team HUMMER becomes the first team to sweep stock class championships in both SCORE and BITD in the same season.
·        A HUMMER was the first stock class vehicle to finish in eight of 10 races in 2008, including the Baja 500 and Baja 1000.

Team Hummer on road to championship

TEAM HUMMER POISED TO SWEEP DESERT SERIES STOCK CLASS SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS

DETROIT – After sweeping the SCORE International stock full and mini class season championships, Team HUMMER is gearing-up for the Best In the Desert racing association’s Henderson FabTech Desert Classic season finale, December 6, in Henderson, NV.

With the team’s H3, H3 Alpha and H2 SUT leading the season points in all three BITD stock classes, Team HUMMER owner Rod Hall and sons Josh and Chad are well positioned to add the BITD stock class season championships to their remarkable list of 2008 season accomplishments.

The 2008 BITD Henderson FabTech Desert Classic features a four-lap race conducted over a rough, high-paced 48-mile loop and Grand Prix-style finish in the unforgiving desert surrounding Henderson, NV.

Legendary off-roader and Team HUMMER H3 pilot Rod Hall, 70, continues to dominate the stock mini class, most recently securing his third consecutive SCORE International stock mini class season championship.  In the BITD series, Hall has recorded class victories at the Terrible’s 250, Vegas To Reno and Silver State 300 and currently leads the BITD stock mini class (3100) in total points.

Team HUMMER’s H3 Alpha is piloted by Chad Hall, who most recently won the stock full class at the 2008 Baja 1000 and earned the 2008 SCORE International stock full season championship.   Hall currently leads the 2008 Best in the Desert stock full SUV class (4100) season points with victories at the Terrible’s 250 and Vegas To Reno races.

The eldest Hall son, Josh, currently leads the BITD stock full truck class (8100) season points in his 2008 HUMMER H2 SUT.  He enters Henderson race with class victories at the Terrible’s 250, Vegas To Reno and Silver State 300 competitions.

A sweep of the BITD stock class season championships combined with the SCORE International stock class championships would mark the first time a team has won every stock class season championship in both desert racing series.

“Victories at the final 2008 race would put an exclamation point on a remarkable season,” said Hall.  “Our ability to consistently finish at the top of the stock classes race-after-race is a great testament to the durability of HUMMER vehicles.”

Save Johnson Valley Fun Ride Scheduled

BRP/BILLET RACING PRODUCTS IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE ITS SECOND ANNUAL FUN RIDE. PUT ON IN CONJUNCTION WITH AMA DISTRICT 37, THIS YEAR’S EVENT IS TO HELP INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE MARINE EXPANSION INTO THE JOHNSON VALLEY OHV AREA.

This year’s event is called the “Save Johnson Valley Fun Ride” to be held on December 13 & 14 in Johnson Valley, Ca at the Cougar Buttes camping area.

LAGUNA HILLS, CA (December 2, 2008) Following up on the success of last years event dedicated to the Clear Creek Management Area, BRP and AMA District 37 have teamed up to have fun and help save Johnson Valley, the largest open OHV area in the country. There is a dual purpose to this year’s event. The first is to increase awareness about the proposed expansion of the Twentynine Palms Marine Base, and the second, is to raise funds for the AMA D37 Legal Defense Fund. The key is to get people involved in the process through education and letter writing while at the same time having fun. We will have various loops for all types of riders and disciplines. Everyone in the OHV community is invited.

In September the Department of Defense started proceedings to expand their Twentynine Palms training facility. One option to increase the training area would be to expand westward into the Johnson Valley OHV Area. The loss of this area would have a devastating effect on the Southern California OHV community and the businesses that serve them.  It is the largest open OHV area in the country, encompassing 189,000 acres. Home to family OHV recreationist as well as a myriad of competition events such as motorcycle races, 2 and 4-wheel drive off-road events and extreme rock crawling.

Donations at this event will benefit AMA D37’s Legal Defense Fund, which was formed to help protect public lands for OHV recreation. These funds allow D37 to be a member of EcoLogic Partners, Inc; which funds an attorney to protect the rights of OHV recreationists. In the case of the proposed Marine expansion into the Johnson Valley OHV Area EcoLogic’s legal counsel will attend public meetings and make written comments at the appropriate stages during the EIS process. Having an attorney monitor and participate in this process will help the OHV community use its voice to shape the outcome.

HUMMER H3 Alpha first stock class vehicle to finish 2008 Baja 1000

Team HUMMER clinches stock class season championships with strong Baja performance

DE
TROIT – Team HUMMER once again demonstrated the inherent off-road capability of the HUMMER H3 as Chad Hall piloted his stock-full class #861 H3 Alpha to become the first stock class vehicle to finish the 2008 SCORE International Baja 1000.

The 2008 Baja 1000 marked the 41st anniversary of the grueling off-road race and covered 631.36 miles, starting and finishing in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.  It ran from November 21-22, 2008.

Hall’s race in the H3 Alpha was virtually trouble-free with only one flat tire to repair during the entire race.  Hall finished the race in 19 hours 22 minutes 47 seconds, averaging a speed of 32.58 mph.  Hall’s victory marked his seventh Baja 1000 class victory and secured his first-ever SCORE International stock-full season points championship.

“I’ve raced HUMMERs in stock-full since 1993 and this is my first SCORE stock-full championship,” said Hall.  “I was skeptical when they first asked me to race the Alpha, but race-after-race this truck has proven to be faster and more reliable than a lot of the higher horsepower trucks we compete against.”

Hall’s victory marks the second consecutive Baja 1000 in which he and the H3 Alpha were the first stock truck to cross the finish line. Hall also recorded class victories at this season’s Laughlin Desert Challenge and Baja 500.

Team HUMMER owner and off-road legend, Rod Hall celebrated his 71st birthday by piloting the stock-mini #760 HUMMER H3 to a second place finish, securing his third consecutive stock-mini season points championship.

Hall partnered with Mike Winkel to finish the race in 22:51:17, despite two flat tires and a steering seal failure caused by an impact with a large boulder.

“We ran a strong race, but just couldn’t make up the time we lost due to the early impact,” said Hall.  “But it was enough to secure our third season championship in the H3, which speaks volumes about that truck’s durability and competitiveness.”

Hall’s season was highlighted by victories at the 2008 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, Baja 250 and Baja 500.

Josh Hall piloted Team HUMMER’s third entry, the #863 stock-full HUMMER H2 SUT to a third place finish after battling the desert and mechanical problems throughout the race.  Hall and the H2 crossed the finish line in 24:50:06.

“It was a tough day for us and the team did a great job keeping the truck running for the finish,” said Josh.  “We’ll take a look at the truck and components and get it dialed in to race for the Best in the Desert stock full season championship next month.”

All three Halls and their HUMMER trucks are in position to secure the stock class season championships at the Best in the Desert racing association’s final race, the Henderson FabTech Desert Classic, December 5, 2008, in Henderson, NV.

One of the three Halls has been the driver of record on a class-winning team in the SCORE Baja 1000 for the eighth straight year and 12th time in the 15 years-history of the stock class.  With 30 class wins, the Halls continue to be the winningest family in the history of the race.
