Go Romping In Snow This Winter


Make sure you pack survival gear along with food and water. Remember that it gets dark early this time of year, and storms can hit in a hurry. Check the forecast before leaving. You don’t want to get caught in the mountains during a blizzard. Also, cold weather reduces the output of your battery. Replace it if it’s more than five years old. Consider installing a dual battery system as well. That way you’ll have a back up, as well as a source of power in case you need to use the winch.

New Team Dedicated to Land-use and Stewardship

Rock Zombies 4x4 club form new rocksports competition team: OV Rocksports

New team is dedicated to land-use issues and trail stewardship.
(February 10th, 2009) - The Nor Cal Rock Zombies are proud to announce OV Rocksports, which is the new competition division of the club. The team consists of three vehicles, two competing in the Pro-Modified class and one in the Super-Modified class in the CalROCS series and other west coast rock crawling and racing events. Additionally, Dan Trout of Fishmouth-Fabworks will drive one of the team’s vehicles in the Last Chance Qualifier in the now-famous King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley with team member Travis Carpenter as spotter.

IIHS makes interactive state law maps available online

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is enhancing its online presentation of state laws by using interactive maps of the United States. The first such laws to be illustrated are motorcycle and bicycle helmet laws and automated enforcement laws, with additional state law maps becoming available. The maps provide geographic representations of the laws to illustrate the extent to which US states are addressing highway safety concerns.

Recreational Trails Programs
It's "start your engines" time with the congressional efforts to renew, reinvigorate and reauthorize the surface transportation act, the vehicle that authorizes and funds highway construction as well as the very successful Recreational Trails Program (RTP). The Coalition for Recreational Trails, the umbrella organization to promote RTP, comprised of a wide range of motorized and non-motorized trail organizations, has forwarded to the Congress its recommendations for adjustments/improvements to the Recreational Trails Program.
