Arizona Non-lead ammo program continues

In past years, the coupon for free non-lead ammunition was mailed with the hunt tag. However, this year, the department has been working to expand its network of retailers that will accept the coupon to better accommodate hunters. In addition, now a limited supply of the most common ammo will be available for coupon redemption at the Phoenix and Flagstaff department offices (note: it will not be offered for regular sale).

But, it followed me home...

Ruger 10/22 Take-DownAfter the mandated California 10-day waiting period, I am still in the market for .22 LR lever action rifle.  My criteria is for a small, light-weight lever action that is easy to stash anywhere.  Well, my local gun store had no lever action rifles meeting my criteria. 

But, they did have a Ruger 10/22 - Take Down semi-auto version with stainless barrel and synthetic stock.  Best of all, being the Take Down version, the barrel separates from the stock and both pieces fit into a padded carrying case. Well, it isn't the lever action that was on my wish list; but, it is small, compact, light weight and easy to stash just about anywhere.  And, it had an appeal that I couldn't turn down.  Ten days later it followed me home.

Lead Ammunition Restrictions in Effect in California

However, given the drastic change, AB 711’s provisions will be phased in over time, up until July 1, 2019 when it will be fully enforced. The first phase that has been in effect since July 1, requires all California hunters to use certified “non-lead ammunition” when taking: (1) Nelson bighorn sheep anywhere within the state; and (2) all wildlife within a Wildlife Area or an Ecological Reserve.

US Fish and Wildlife Service Announces Firearms Rule Change for Possession in National Wildlife Refuges

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today announced that effective February 22, 2010, the rules governing possession of firearms on National Wildlife Refuges will change as a result of legislation enacted by Congress. After this date, the law allows an individual to lawfully possess a firearm within the boundaries of a National Wildlife Refuge in accordance with federal, state and local firearms laws.
